Shooting - Studio
In Thursdays lesson we filmed in the studio again as our previous green screen filming didn't work so this time we filmed with our background already there instead of the green screen, and we also filmed with a black background instead of green screen, as when we filmed it with green screen previously and tried to use the black background we had difficulties as the green reflected in the guitar and it was impossible to edit out on final cut, now that we've filmed with a black background it is a lot better and we will be able to successfully edit it. Overall this filming was very successful.
Shooting - Leaves
In today's lesson we filmed some footage in the burn valley park, this wasn't footage that we needed but we thought it would be best to film more footage that would go within our music video in case we need it. Some of the shot that we done was the main character walking along a path, another one of them kicking leaves and a one of them sat on the floor playing with the leaves, we thought these were all successful shots as we can now use them in our video.
Shooting - Green screen
In Today's lesson we filmed different shots with the green screen. The first shot we filmed was the shot where the main character is going to be stood in the city when everything is fast-forwarding, this shot was successful although it is difficult to edit out the green so we may have to film this part again, although it isn't too bad. We also filmed different shots of the main character playing guitar and we used different shots such as long shots, close ups and medium shots, as well as shots from the side. One of the problems we had was that the guitar at first had no strap, so the main character couldn't stand up and play it, when we eventually got a strap we had to tape it to the guitar as there was nowhere to attach it, although this wasn't a good idea as it kept falling off, eventually we used string to tie the strap to the guitar, which was better as it never fell off and it wasn't visible. Overall the filming was quite successful.
Shooting - Newcastle
Last night we filmed some of our music video in Newcastle which was mostly successful, we filmed the shots which we planned to which were, the trombone shot, walking along a dark street, parts were there are lights in the background and a shot of the main character drinking out of a bottle spinning around, we also filmed some extra shots which we thought we might be able to use in case we couldn't use the other shots, which were crossing a zebra crossing, and a low-angle shot with a clock in the background. The trombone shot was difficult to do as we had to do it handheld which made it look very unprofessional, so we have decided not to use this clip as it isn't a clip that we need to use and we have other clips which we could use instead. We also filmed a busy street to put on the background of the green screen were the main character will be stood whilst everything in the background is fast-forwarding.
Shooting - Fire 2
Last night we filmed the fire shots once again, although we didn't film the lyrics burning as we still had those shots from last time. Some of the extra shots that we added was some shots of the main character singing whilst stood against a wall, we also filmed the whispering shot twice, near the fire and near the wall, again. We decided to film down a dark lane using car headlights to light up the main character. We done shots of her from the front walking forwards, as well as some of her walking forwards from behind. We also done some shots of her sat on a fence whilst driving past, and one of her where it looks as though she is about to be ran over. Another shot we filmed was of the main character brushing her hair in a mirror, which illustrates the lyrics. Over all we thought that this was very successful filming.
Filming - Fire
Last night we filmed the fire scene with different shots of the main character behind the fire, as well as another character whispering into the main characters ear, we filmed close ups as well as medium shots, and we also filmed some of the lyrics of the song being burned in the fire, which we thought was successful.

Lyrics breakdown

Auidence profile
This is Emily, she is 18 years old, and she she goes to college where she studies photography, art, music and media. Emily likes to shop at Topshop, MissSelfridge, ASOS and also likes to shop at vintage shops, where she finds the clothes to dress quite indie and quirky. Other bands that she like to listen to are The XX, Foals, The Maccabees, Arcade Fire, Bombay Bicycle Club, The Strokes, Best Coast, Yeasayer, Bob Dylan, The Drums, Friendly Fires, The Vaccines and Arctic Monkeys. She enjoys socialising with friends and horse riding with her pony, Sparkle. She takes inspiration from people such as Peaches Geldof, Fearne Cotton, Alexa Chung and Kate Moss. She also enjoys going to the cinema and gigs, and she learns songs on her guitar in her spare time. Emily says she likes Warpaint because of their chilled out, relaxed songs and she likes their style. She also likes the fact that they are an all girl band and they aren't 'girly'.
Digipak analysis
The digipak I have chosen is Oasis's, Stop the Clock album which is also there greatest hits. On the front cover of the digipak there are four images, the first image is at the top left and it is an image of the bands name which in the case is Oasis. This image is of the bands logo which is there name in a white font and a black background. This is helping the audience identify the digipaks content. Another image on the font cover is a wooden wardrobe and inside are toys and clothing such as Elvis figures, snow white and the seven dwarves ornaments, an Elvis jacket and other vintage objects. The designer was Sir Peter Blake who also designed the Beatles cover for Sgt. Pepper and the Lonely Hearts Club Band. The third image on the front cover is of a door with a blue background, painted on it is CD 1 inside the digipak painted twice. The last image is of a wooden table with objects on top of it and beneath it. These objects are a similar style to the ones inside the wardrobe which are old looking worn out toys which are from the 1940's till 1960's. All of these images and objects create an age to the album making the album feel and look like it’s not from this time, probably the reason the band named the album "stop the clocks".
Inside the digipak has four spaces, the first is a small book featuring images of the band in different years, song titles and the lyrics to the songs and a small history about the band. The second and third place in the digipak is the two main CD's featuring all the songs on CD1 it is an old fashioned roulette wheel with a red ring around the outside. CD 2 is the same to CD 1 but has a blue ring around it. The fourth place is a DVD about the band and is titled "Big Brother" this CD has a image of the front cover but at a different angle.

Advert analysis
This album advert is for the album Kingdom of Rust by Doves. The only thing included in this advert is large text which covers the whole of the advert and some smaller text towards the bottom which is quite small font. Although there is just text included in this advert the larger text has images included within it. Within the larger font we can see that the text is made up of images of rust which goes with the album name Kingdom of Rust. As the background is black this helps the text to stand out as well as it being quite bold. Although this is the main focus in the advert the smaller text does also stand out as the text is in white. This text needs to stand out on the advert as it is a key piece of information about the album. As there are no images in this advert this allows us to focus on the most important thing which is the album information, obviously being something which the band want to advertise mostly.
Advert analysis
The album advert i have chosen to analyse is Goldfrapp - Headfirst. The main colours used in this advert are yellow, pink, white and purple which contribute to the dreamy image that the clouds create. Superimposition is used of the face of Goldfrapp layered on top of the clouds which also creates a dream like image. The colour scheme and editing used creates a visual image of her music and gives us the idea that it is fantasy like which is the same as her videos and her song 'Rocket'. It also gives us the idea that her music is bright and happy along with the colour scheme and image. The text used for the album name is very simple which makes us focus more on the image than the information and the bold text which says 'Goldfrapp' which is used stands out so that the audience immediately recognise the artist.
Nine frame music video analysis
The first shot that we are shown in the video is medium close up of a girl which stays at the same shot but fades to black and then back onto the shot of the girl. In this shot the background is very dark which illuminates her hair and face allowing her to be the full focus at this point. After this shot when we start to hear more of the music we see a range of shots of the band Yuck which range from medium long shots, medium close up and close up shots all of the band on stage and their instruments. During this we are also shown shots of shops and road signs which are moving along with the camera showing someone is going somewhere. We then see a medium long shot of a van which is moving shortly followed by medium close up shots of the band members in the van and a shot of the lead singer singing. Whilst the band are driving along we see a medium long on a girl holding a sign saying somewhere. From the way she is standing and holding out her hand this gives us the impression she is a hitchhiker but we see the van just drive past. After the van has drove past this girl we see another in a medium close up shot that is holding up a sign saying anywhere who again gives us the impression she is a hitchhiker but we see the van again drive past. We then see another girl from a medium close up shot but that has been shot from behind her which allows us to see the van drive past. From this shot we can also see that the girl is naked but again is holding up a sign. A medium shot is shown of the van carrying on driving but we are then shown back to the previous medium shot of the girl as we see the van reversing back toward her. A medium close up is shown of her opening the van door followed by a medium shot of inside the van where both the girl and band members and sitting showing she is the only hitchhiker they have picked up. A range of different shots are then used to show the band playing on stage and singing inside of the van. We then see a lot of close up shots of the girl one which we see is of her neck and we see that she is wearing a dog type collar and on the tag we can see it says Yuck which is the name of the band. During these shots of the girl we are also seen many shots of the band again playing on stage so that we can still see they are there. These shots continue until towards the end of the video where we see a medium shot of someone holding a sign saying get away, which is also the name of the song. The camera is the tilted upwards were we see the girls face and the van driving away as the song finishes.
Nine frame music video analysis
In the video farewell to the fairground the first important shot that we are shown is a long shot of a car driving down a empty icy road. This shot is important as it is something which in similar form is shown throughout the video. We see then see another long shot of another clip of a deserted town which another one of these similar shots we see throughout. When the singing starts we are shown a medium close up of the singer as he starts singing. During this we also see that he is walking along this is then followed by a medium shot of the singer still walking along but in this shot we can see the background which looks deserted and cold. When we are shown this shot we also hear the lyrics "it's a dream that's growing cold" which his surroundings emphasize on. Whilst he is walking we see a long shot of the singer still walking along but passing the car which we had seen previous. During the beginning of this video we see that these are the only two objects and people in the town. After the car has past we hear the lyrics 'goodbye to this dead town' where the previous shot shows how dead the town is. A medium shot of a stage which is set up is shown throughout this video along with many close up and medium close ups of the band members. Which is something usually shown in videos of bands but yet has nothing to do with the video. Between these shots we are shown a range of different shots of a man exercising. We are also shown many shots of the room which looks empty apart from exercise equipment and the one man. This is another indication that the town is dead and no one is really around. Towards the middle of the video we hear the repeated words 'keep on running, keep on running there's no place like home' where we first see a medium shot of the singer walking along. As he keeps repeating this we then see a medium close up shot of his face as he starts to run along a deserted road. This could show that he is running to get home as he says 'there's no place like home'. As we see him running along we see many different shots of previous places we have already seen throughout the video. Such as the man who is exercising, the band playing on stage and previous shots we have been shown of the deserted town. One shot that we see is a medium close up of two children standing and jumping on cars showing they have no respect for there town and we also see that no one is around to stop them as the town is deserted. At the end of the video the singer is still shown walking along the deserted town alone which doesn't allow us to know where he was going or if he got home.

The most frequent shot used is a medium shot, and the editing of this video is quite fast paced, especially towards the end where the song builds up.

Personal Skills Audit
Digital technology:
iMovie - Using imovie allowed us to upload our film onto a software were we could edit our movie and upload images and soundtracks.
Garage band - We created the soundtrack to our film using garage band as it had a range of different sounds which allowed us to create a horror soundtrack related to our movie.
Photoshop - In photoshop we created titles which we could add to our movie which we could then edit and add effects to using imovie.
I plan on developing these skills by using final cut and trying out its different effects apposed to iMovie.
Research and planning:

The planning and research helped to give us an understanding of what is included in an opening sequence but I think that I would look at wider variety of opening sequences next time to give me a better idea of what other techniques and ideas could be included.
Using conventions of real media text:
The two films we looked at were Se7en and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre which gave us ideas for conventions such as the surroundings and settings used in horror. From watching these we got some ideas for characters which ours were similar in ways. I would think that watching more films would help out and give out a wider range of conventions we could have used for our movie.
Creativity:
Our movie was quite unique compared to most horrors as although it used the typical horror conventions and had the typical types of characters you didn't see any violence or see anything happen relating to weapons which is usually a main story in a horror. Although this worked out quite well I think using more conventions such as showing weapons getting used and such could of worked well also.

Friendly Fires - Hawaiian Air
Again this is another illustrate video as it relates to the video throughout. It is mainly revolved around the singer on a plane which is known as the Hawaiian Air which is the name of the song and is what the song is about. And although we do see the band playing instruments and singing they become part of the meaning on the video as they are sat on the plane. They also become part of the problem on the plane along with many other problems which the song indicates such as when the song says 'aching my leg from a broken seat' we see the drummer sat behind drumming on the singers chair which is the cause of the broken seat. In the video we do also see clips of what is indicated to be Hawaii and Friendly Fires in Hawaii but this again relates with the song title and what the song is about.
Everything Everything - Suffragette Suffragette
This video would be classed as amplification as the video includes words an images that are used in the song . Throughout this video we see many words which are used in the song. The first of these words is used at 0.09 which is blitz and this word appears when it is said in the song. During the first part of the chorus we heard the words 'Back to the liver. Take my lung, take my loose tongue, take my sum, take my memory' and during this point we are shown these words at the bottom of the screen. At this point we are also shown images of a liver, lung, tongue and a brain which all match up with the lyrics. Other parts of the video we are also shown are of the band members singing and playing instruments which doesn't create any meaning to the song lyrics but they are dressed up to create humor and their costumes fit in with was is going on in the video.
Blonde Redhead - Top Ranking
This again is another disjuncture music video as it video doesn't create any meaning towards the song. We are shown one girl in the same room throughout. The girl in the video changes position every second which keeps the video flowing. Also a range of different shots are used so we see here from different angles. In the video the girl used is not in any way related towards the band Blonde Redhead which in disjuncture videos bands usually use themselves.
The Drums - Best Friend
In this video they have used what is called a disjuncture technique. This is were the video doesn't create any meaning what so ever to the song. Like most disjuncture music videos we are shown a video of the band playing the song. We are only shown one setting throughout the whole of the video and only one shot is used throughout. As you only see one shot the band keep the video entertaining by dancing and moving around. Such as when the song starts you cannot see the singer but you can hear him and then he comes in through a small window at the side of the room. As the room is small you can see everything which is going on so that the video looks busy.
Yeasayer - 2080
I think that this music video would be classed as illustration as the video represents the song 2080. Throughout the video we see only one setting where the video is located appearing to be space which is how Yeasayer are trying to interpret there idea of what 2080 will be like. In the video we see very little people but they are all shown wearing space suits showing that in 2080 they have the idea that everyone will be living in space. We are also shown images of space shuttles which indicates also about the place of which they are at. Although they are showing what they think it will be like in 2080 they use the lyrics 'In 2080 i'll surely be dead but don't look ahead, never look ahead' which indicates that they think anything could happen just like they think in their video.
